Crazy World

I keep recalling a scene from an old Holocaust movie. A Jewish girl, exasperated, asks her parents, "Why no one believes him [Hitler]? He always does what he says, but no one believes him!"

Maybe that's the thing with Putin or Trump? Maybe they are, deep down, rebels, like Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Ray. Frustrated by the "phony" people who can't believe them because it’s the very concept of truth that the phony people struggle with… Makes for a crazy world to live in.

For years and years and years
I wondered
But dared not ask
And then—
I blundered,
Looked behind the mask,
To find Nothing

She had no face.
She had become
Merely a hand
Holding a mask
With grace
